A Self Improvement Lesson: Why Average People Remain Average

Posted By Tim in The Mind Set

If you do what you’re expected to do, don’t expect an outstanding result.

Study successful people and you’ll sure to discover one thing that many of them would have in common- they live by that words of “always do more than what is expected of you.”

It could be sleeping an hour less everyday to have more time to build your wealth or whatsoever.

Whether you are mowing people’s lawn or someone is mowing your lawn, when you are teaching a seminar or being a participant, when sharing your knowledge or giving advice to others, always do or give more than what people expect. Then they will flock around you, lining up to meet you and support you in whatever thing that you want to do next.

If you’re training to be a champion, don’t just train like an average player. Train more than you’re expected to train.

If you’re building a multi-level marketing business, increase the numbers of prospects you would like to meet everyday. If it used to be 10, now you would have at least 12. By just increasing your effort 20%, you’ll now get 60 new prospects a month. Now, that’s what I called exponential growth.

Trying to court a girl? I’m not surprise that you could be “competing” with five other guys for the same girl. And you can only win if you’re giving more than all of them (if everyone’s equal). I’m not saying giving more money or buying stuff- give love, time or whatever that she appreciates.

Whenever you are interacting with people or in a relationship, treat extremely well.

Whatever is expected of you in that relationship, be it with your girlfriend, wife/husband, business partner or client or your friend, always do or give more than what is expected of you in that relationship because that is the secret of making it a success.

Don’t be mistaken that it you need to give a whole lot more; you have to do just a little bit more than the rest. That’s it.

To do this, it’s not difficult. But most people are just too lazy to put in the effort. I’m one of them but I’ll always keep reminding myself this- winner takes all. There is no second place, my friend. I would rather strive with the extra effort to get #1 because the pay off is many times greater than #2.

Do you remember who the second best basketball player is? Nope. You can remember Michael Jordan because he’s #1. In fact, as far as I know, there’s no such place as the ‘the second best basketball player’.

Who’s the second fastest runner in the world? Who knows. I just know the #1.

Others have called this ‘more than expected attitude’ as ‘going for the extra mile’. Notice that they don’t say the extra 10 miles.

How come?

Because the average persons doesn’t bother to do more than what is expected of them and that’s the awful truth.

To most people, “always do more than what is expected of you” are mere words and they don’t put substance to it.

And guess what… successful people are never your average people.

To be generous and to treat others extremely well, you must come from the perspective of abundance thinking. Then only “always doing more than what is expected of you” will come easy and naturally.

So the next time you are with somebody, in a business negotiation, or just interacting with another person, ask how can I help you… without even expecting any return.

As the other saying goes, commonly heard in personal improvement — you have to give, in order to get. In fact, if you want to gather riches you have to be as generous as you can. Touch people’s lives profoundly in ways that they would never forget. Give it forward- help another and that person will help another. Always do more than what is expected of you. Do this and the reward will come in 10 folds or 100 folds when you are least expecting it.

Do you think you can do more than what you’re doing right now? Of course you can. The question is… DO YOU WANT OR NOT? You’ll have to decide for your own future on that.

Posted By Tim in Skills

Go on,admit it! Sometimes you can be overwhelmed by seemingly endless streams of paperwork and wonder if you will ever be able to organize it all. Emails or Ezines that you want to keep, tips, school papers, notes of ideas that popped into your head as you waited to have a tooth filled, newspaper clippings. etc etc .. You just file and file and file and then forget where that ONE article was that you needed to finalize the project that was due last week! Phew! It is all exhausting.

5) Do it Now! Do not allow for the luxury of procrastination. If you do, this will only stress you out when you think about that hateful “to do” item on your list. You will end up blowing your “to do” list right out of proportion and it will become almost impossible to accomplish. Start by tackling the largest or most disliked job first, dividing it up into manageable tasks. At this stage, the other jobs will be a breeze!

6) Administrate Chores: Delegate those tasks that you have no time for or team up with someone who can help you the most.

10) Deal with it Only Once: Handle each letter and each piece of paper only once. Read it and file it, redirect it to somewhere else, schedule it in your daily planner or toss it. Do not add it to a never-ending pile on your desk in the hope that you will get to it eventually. You WILL NOT!

11) Be your own Post-Master: Use those handy sticky notes to write errands requiring to be done. Stick them to your front door or your fridge, to remind you as you are headed out. These work great!

A Classic Self Help Book List

Posted By Tim in Problems

I was asked recently by someone posting on my self help blog what were the best self help books I have read. Although there are several thousand self help books published each year I have come to the conclusion that there is very little that can be added to the many words of self help wisdom that have been written over the last century and a half. From the early pioneers like Napoleon Hill to today’s monumental giants like Tony Robbins. It was said, I think by the latter of these two gurus, that we arrive on this planet without an instruction manual. I think for that reason alone there is not just a thirst for knowledge but a greater need for a guide to how to survive life which drives the market for self help books. You don’t need to have suffered a deep psychological trauma to want to invest in one of these guides. But for those who say you can’t deal with serious issues like depression then I disagree. Where my own doctor and a clinical psychologist were unable to help me a number of the books on my all time classic list gave me the support to get my life back on track. However its not reading self help books that gets results its taking action on the advice that is given therein. So my advice is read a small amount of self help books but take a lot of action if you want to significantly improve your life.
Can self help books bring happiness? Now there is a million dollar question! Depends on your definition of happiness of course. Many people would define it as achieving a certain amount of wealth. However as many wealthy people often say the wealth in and of itself doesn’t bring happiness. In addition have you ever noticed that wealthy people never seem satisfied with what they have got and continually seek to make more and more money. The truth is that happiness is not a destination it is more likely to be a state of continually striving to achieve goals, achieving them and setting more goals to strive to achieve. If thats your definition then I think self help books will help you and my list of all time classics have certainly helped me in that respect. There are many out there who will disagree with my choice of self help books and have their own favourites all I can say to them is that these are the ones that gave me the focus and the necessary poke in the ribs to take action and I still revisit them for ideas.

Winning Guide To Help You Get, And Stay, Organized.

Posted By Tim in Planning

Below are some timesaving tips to help you get, and stay, organized.

1. Use a day planner. These books used to be used only by the big CEO’s, or the school academic nut. Not so today! Look around for a bit before selecting one you like best. Make sure it suits your needs. You will find day planners come in all sizes and materials and sizes. Your planner will assist you to effectively plan out your day on paper, so you know where you are going and what you are doing. These days, planners come complete with money pouches, checkbook holders and computer disk carriers, so shopping around is definitely a good idea!

2. Use a family planner. Yes, buy another planner for your entire family. This way, everyone in the family knows what everyone else is up to and when. You can plan much better this way. Consider getting one those dry-erase boards available in most office stores. Mom can put her important luncheons on there, dad can put his coaching meetings, and the kids can put their after-school activities on it. Put it up in a suitable location, which could be the refrigerator or somewhere in a high-traffic area.

3. Learn to just say “no.” You are just one person, after all and you cannot do everything! Exercise your stress management techniques by saying “no” now and again when you are asked to do things that are of little priority to you.

4. Take time to enjoy yourself. What makes you the happiest? Spending time with your hildren? Going out to the movies? Indulging at the spa? Attending sports or shows? Take some time to think of what you love to do most and then get out there and do it all! Schedule some “me time” in that great new planner you have purchased and treat it like an appointment with yourself! Although doing something such as gardening may sound like a bit of a chore, if you find it relaxing, pencil it in. Everything has a time of its own so make time for yourself.

5. Take time to do a good clean up. When was the last time you organized that junk drawer, or sorted through your fridge? Is it time to catch up? At the same time buy some new hooks and organize your purse and keys. When you walk in the door, they should be placed right there ready for next time. Chances are, you might be spending valuable time getting frustrated over missing items. Make sure everything is located easily with a place for everything. That way, you will know where to look next time. Perhaps invest in some organizers. They sure are worth while when you find your life just that much more organized. Your Chance to Find Out Useful Info About Procrastination

Posted By Tim in The Mind Set

Contrary to popular belief, procrastination does serve a purpose in your life. And that is why this is a lesson in procrastination which you will not want to miss. You may have been fighting procrastination for as long as you can remember. However instead of offering you a miraculous cure for procrastination, let’s take a step back from your present to better understand the presence of procrastination in your life.

Like most people, you are often overstretched in areas of your life. Currently you are playing several different roles at any one time, e.g. roles of a productive employee, a filial child, an understanding partner, a caring parent, a helpful friend and many other more which you seek to do well and excel in. However, there are just too many roles for you to fit into at any one time.

And in addition to that, you are obliged to adhering to the duties of every roles, their respective “shoulds” and “musts”. The truth is regardless how well you plan your time, you only have a limited time and energy every day. There is only this much of things you can seek to accomplish daily. However, most “procrastinators” fail to realize that.

Instead, day after day, they try to accomplish all their tasks in one day. And when they fail, they beat themselves up and feel that they procrastinate in completing them.

Any time management experts will tell you that attempting to do everything within a short period of time is suicidal. Eventually, you will run of gas and burn out.

Unknown to many, we are all procrastinators in this modern world. Everything you do carry with it an opportunity cost. When you decide to invest your time and energy in playing a particular role well, you will be neglecting your other important life roles at the same time. And when you fail to meet those “shoulds” and “musts” which come along with those roles, you feel that you have not done enough.

Thus, rather than constantly beating up yourself for not doing enough and hoping for a heaven-sent cure for procrastination, why not look into yourself and determine what you truly value in your life.

By determining the priorities of the different roles in your life, you will better understand what you truly treasure. And it does make sense to allocate more time and energy in fulfilling those more important roles to your very best while giving less attention to other less crucial roles, isn’t it?

That will eliminate the need for you to want to do everything within a short period of time and along with it the misconception of procrastination.

This is a lesson in procrastination which took many people a long time to understand. By learning this it well, you will gradually learn not to get too overly troubled about the presence of procrastination in your life.

Your Chance to Find Out How to Use the Giving Back to Others

Posted By Tim in The Mind Set

CAN YOUR LIFE MAKE A DIFFERENCE BY GIVING BACK TO OTHERS

When you get to be my age - you will find yourself beginning to ask, did my life make a difference?

That?s the day of personal reckoning. And I think the only way to face it is to consider, every day of your life: How can I do something for somebody else? How can I give back to others? It may be teaching, it may be becoming a doctor, you may be successful in business - no matter what your career path, there will always be the opportunity to give back. The chance will present itself to be giving of your time, giving of your money, but mostly, to be giving of yourselves, of your own heart and soul.

Cosmic Ordering is not all about taking, but about giving. This is not tithing whereby you set a certain percentage of your earnings to one side and to be given away. You cannot just buy this ?giving back to others?.

My hope today, as you commence to new beginnings, is you will always keep your eyes open for those opportunities to give and embrace them as your best sure way of doing well.

THE MOST VALUABLE GIFT IN THE WORLD IS PRICELESS AND YET ALSO SO INEXPENSIVE

You know, while everyone is chasing a bigger pay rise, more returns on their investments and fatter cheques (checks) from TV show royalties, there is something we can overlook in life as being worth far more, yet so inexpensive for us to attain. Here is a story to show what I mean.

Junior high school students in Chicago were studying the Seven Wonders of the World. At the end of the lesson, the students were asked to list what the considered to be the Seven Wonders of the World. The following received the most votes:

1. Egypt’s Great Pyramids
2. The Taj Mahal in India
3. The Grand Canyon in Arizona
4. The Panama Canal
5. The Empire State Building
6. St. Peter’s Basilica
7. China’s Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student, a quiet girl, hadn’t turned in her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The quiet girl replied, “Yes, a little. I couldn’t quite make up my mind because there were so many.” The teacher said, “Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help.”

The girl hesitated, then read, ?I think the Seven Wonders of the World are:

1. to touch…
2. to taste…
3. to see…
4. to hear… (She hesitated a little, and then added…)
5. to feel…
6. to laugh…
7. and to love.?

The room was so quiet, you could have heard a pin drop.

May this story serve as a gentle reminder to all of us that the things we overlook as simple and ordinary are often the most wonderful - and we don’t have to travel anywhere special to experience them.

Enjoy your gifts! They are priceless!!
