Your golden years are a wonderful time of life, and active adult neighborhoods provide retirees with the chance to hang out with same-minded folks. As I am nearing my retirement age, my mind is thinking of these kinds of neighborhoods. But where do I pickfind the right one?

My search first took me online to look at the most sought after areas of the country to retire to. However, I soon realized that my search didn’t need to be limited to the continental United States, as there are many lovely active adult communities in more exotic locations like Mexico and Hawaii But also if I did choose to retire within the boundaries of my home state, there are communities all over that cater specifically to retired people. These areas are usually set in beautiful surroundings with lush green fairways and and occasionally even some wildlife. The golfers community is usually located in the warmer states of the south, but a few northern states have some perfect areas as well.

Another bonus of a lot of active retirement neighborhoods is the availability of maintenance-free homes. Let’s face the fact: I don’t want to spend my golden years mowing lawns when these places do it all for you, and the price is all figured into the homeowners fees. Why do that when you can spend your retirement years doing what you want to do instead of what you have to do.

Most retired people also want to be in a locality that offers lots of choices in terms of entertainment and activities since the years after a exhaustive career are the ones you want to spendsitting back and enjoying. Many communities will offer their share of bonuses like spas, gaming centers, and shopping malls to keep everyone enjoying doing the activities they enjoy most.

I am truly looking forward to the option of eating out quite often in my retirement, so my idea is to be in an active retirement neighborhood surrounded by choice restaurants. Searching for neighborhoods online will allow me to simply identify areas that meet all the criteria I’ve talked about here.
