Here’s some great tips for public speaking and using your voice.

To use the voice to best effect in ashow involves us having to put a great amount of effort into how we manipulate it. So how does one best use your voice?

1. Adding some confidence. If our audience doesn’t believe in us, then why will they bother giving us the time of day, let alone sit through our presentation?

2. Conviction in what we are asserting is also key. Putting across our fervour, despite the incontrovertiblefact that we are truly convinced in our own argument, may cause our audience to doubt us and put question marks over what we have to say.

3. Enthusiasm, too, is vital. If we are assured and are convinced in our own arguments, then highlylikely we may also come across as enthused. Being avid is also infectious. If we sound all fired up by what we say, the chances are we are going to have a simpler ’sell in’ of our ideas than if we appear not so turned on by the topic matter in hand.

4. Our integrity is also something that must never be brought into question. If we try and bluff our way through a sticky patch, we are able to be sure the audience will surely catch us out with the result that virtually everything else we say might also be challenged.

5. Naturally, if we are able to show we’ve got a widespread grasp of the subject in hand by being able to show off our data, then that too is very important, though not really necessary. Or is it? How to stop putting things off and get more done

Procrastination is the one thing that will destroy the best-laid plans of time management. Plenty of people procrastinate, and some researchers and psychologists say that procrastination is a learned response that we subconsciously teach ourselves or learn from others. What’s worse is that putting things off and waiting until the last minute has been linked to depression.

There are four themes connected to procrastination. There is the Self-Doubting Procrastinator, who fears he will fail at his task so he second-guesses himself out of taking action. There is the Discomfort Dodger, who avoids activities that cause anxiety or discomfort. There is the Guilt-Driven Person, who feels guilty about putting off important tasks but continues to procrastinate to avoid the pressing guilt. Finally, there is the Habitual Procrastinator, one who has procrastinated so many times that the action has become routine, just a part of the person.

Acknowledging you procrastinate and wanting to change the behavior is great, but it can be difficult to know what you should do to break the habit. After all, our society rewards procrastination. Extensions to deadlines are common and often given, people who arrive late at appointments with apologies are excused, and companies give pats on the back for last minute bursts of effort, not for slow, steady progress. With all that rewarding of procrastination and society’s hands-down acceptance of the habit, it’s tough to know how to break away from putting things off until the last minute.

The first step toward breaking the procrastination spell is to make a to-do-list. The list doesn’t have to be in order, but it needs to be somewhere visible so that it can serve as a constant reminder of what needs to be done. After you have made a list, it would be great if you could prioritize that list. Anybody who’s run a home based business knows the significance of this idea. You could rank your tasks by deadline or what is considered to be most important. You can also invest in a large calendar that can be a constant source for dates and writing notes. You need to put the calendar in a place that is common, so that it can be seen often and not hidden by a closed door and forgotten. If you have a punctuality problem when it comes to time and deadlines, you can up your deadlines by two days and set your clocks ahead by ten minutes. When you mentally think that the new time and deadline are the right ones, you will find yourself relieved that you not only made your deadline, but you did it early and now you have free time.

The bottom line is that no one enjoys procrastinating, and if you are a habitual procrastinator you could jeopardize areas of your life. Procrastinators are generally considered unreliable, unpredictable, and unstable. If you can change and start to be progressive, you will find that you will have more time to spend with your friends and loved ones.

The Bride Speech - Make It Yours

Maybe most people think the wedding revolves around the bride, or maybe it’s because the bride does most of the preparation and organizing no matter the reason customarily the bride will greet the guests and is the one to give the welcome toast at the reception. With so many other things to think about it can be easy for such a small item such as the bride speech to slip a brides mind leaving her little time to prep and practice.

Here are some tips and advice to help the speech go well and be remembered positively by everyone..

Keep it short
The shorter it is the less time you have to say something silly, make a fool of yourself or have to remember a million little things. Sound gracious and sincere, get your point across and say what you need to say, that’s it. If you want to give a long heartfelt message that is fine but know that the longer it is the more people you will lose as their attention spans will lessen and they will begin drifting off losing the second half of whatever you have to say.

Write it on note cards
You don’t need to have the whole speech with you but note cards will help you remember the main points and ensure you don’t get lost. You can check the key points before you stand up to speak and have them their if you need them during the speech.

Do the speech as soon as possible
Right after your first dance or the grand entrance is the perfect time for you to give your speech. You can do it anytime before the start of the meal to ensure everyone will pay attention and the speech will make perfect sense.

Practice in front of a mirror
You need to practice to ensure you are ready and are as comfortable as possible at reading your speech. Use a fake microphone to help you feel comfortable and practice in front of a mirror to watch how you will look on your wedding day. Learn to relax and your speech will come naturally.

Acknowledge individual people but not too many
If there are certain people who have made a special impact on your or were helpful in planning the wedding then you may want to single them out and that is great but too many special people can become repetitive and boring thus taking about the specialness of each person and devaluing them. You aren’t Halle Berry thanking everyone from her dry cleaner to her dog groomer at the Oscars.

Take Your Time
If you rush your speech then the chances are you will not be understood. To help give yourself time to think you need to slow down your speech, this will also help make sure that people understand what you are saying.

It appears to come as a surprise to many that giving agood show or speech is one of the key ingredients for a successful career so you may need to learn some tips for public speaking.

But for most Public talking is also one of the most terrifying jobs they will have to do in their career.

Most shows are designed to sell an idea. And as any marketer will tell us, the art of good selling is to tie in our product or service with the interests of our buyers.

So, the corollary of this is the art of a good display is to tie in our messages with the interests of our audience.

Are they there to be informed or kept up to date on a fast moving marketplace?

Perhaps they are there to be trained?

Or to have some facet of our business explained to them?

Some presentations are about building relations, or inspiring and motivating a workforce. Perhaps we want to challenge their guesses, or to provoke their curiosity in a particular area? We’d be trying to sell them something, or getting them to buy in to our way of thinking.

At the end of the day, the actual reason to present to anyone is to switch something. It could be we would like to change the way they suspect about something ; or their behaviour in regard to a specific issue.

Irrespective of the reason for our performance, the standard approach we need to take is just about the same.

How we present ourselves, the way we control our voice, the way we structure content and the way we put our points across to the crowd are the tips for public speaking that can be learned and put to good effect.

That seems to be a lot, but when youare the one standing in front of the audience there is not enough data in the world that might get you over that fear and build your confidence.

So how does one improve your public speaking confidence?

One word : Practice

Nothing can make you feel more nervous or anxious than not being prepared for your public speaking engagement.
Doesn’t your nervousness and anxiousness spring from the indisputable fact that you could look dumb in front of the audience?

Poor preparation will guarantee this.

This is the one step which the majority of average ( and below average ) presenters skip and then they wonder why the speech didn’t go so well.

By practicing you can master the structure of your presentation and the more that you practice the simpler it becomes.

Can you predict the likely questions you’ll get from the fans and either prepare answers for them or include them in your presentation?

By practicing, you’ll gain an amazing amount of self-confidence.

When I present a speech to an audience, it is not the first time. It’s the hundredth time. I practice and visualize myself standing in front of the audience, completing a fantastic successful presentation and getting a standing ovation, 99 times in my head beforehand. Then when I stand up and make the speech, it makes it much easier. Try it.

Another key learning strategy for me over time, has been to video myself presenting. It is hard to see yourself at first, but wow what a quick and successful way of improving your method. You’ll see :

Your own body language - how are you standing, what are you doing with your hands?

Are you relaxed and confident?

Are you repeating the same word, slogan in every sentence?

Are there too many ‘erms’?

Are there enough pauses for impact?

Your eye contact - are you having a look at the fans or have your back to them, which is a major turn off?

Is your voice monotone?

Are you coming across with enthusiasm and enthusiasm?

Are you finishing your sentences or mumbling towards the end of each one?

How long did the presentation take? Too long? Too short?

Make mandatory changes and video yourself again.

Show the video to some colleagues and friends - ask for their truthful feedback. Make sure you ask folks who will tell you the truth and again make obligatory changes.

In reality, a great secret is to ask great presenters for feedback. Getting feedback from an expert is basic if you need to improve. If you ask your friends or comrades, they may say, Yeah, it was good, or It was fine.

That isn’t feedback!

You need somebody to tell you how it’s possible for you to improve further and the best person to do that’s an expert Public speaker.

Don't Let Time Beat You!

Time flies, so they say. On the contrary, I decalre that time stays, we go. But that’s another philosophical debate that I do not want to doin the here and now especially with the Howard Miller Grandfather Clock chiming out the time that says it’s time to do my fave thing - eat.

What I want to discuss is the concept of time turning us into its slaves. Yes, often we are the slaves of time - running late for an engagement, worrying about age wreaking havoc on our faces and worrying about the unknowable future, to name a few.

Well, luckily for me, I have adapted ways that will make me a free woman, free of that Howard Miller Wall Clock that mocks the results of my procrastinations.

Do Things Now

Whoa! Stop right there with your askance looks. When you do things as planned, especially the unsavory tasks, you are free to do as you desire after it.

Now, when you procrastinate on things till the last hour, or in my case, till the last second, you are apt to feel pressured by time and, hence, unduly stressed out. Where is the freedom of spirit in that? Better to do away with the onerous task than worry about running out of time later, that’s all that I’m saying.

Do Things for Yourself

We have so little human time on Earth that it definitely is a waste of existence not to do some pampering for ourselves once in a while. At the very least, I don’t have toworry about running late for something because I, after all, am the master of my alone time! I can do damn well as I want with it.

You will find that once you have made time pleasurable, you are not its unwilling slave anymore. In fact, you will look forward to the next session of self-pampering! And yes, I definitely turn off the alarm in the Howard Miller Mantel Clock when it’s my “alone time” during lazy weekends.

Truly, when you make time your friend instead of your enemy, you discoverthat there are many things that you can do with it. You can make time-measured goals without feeling the heat of time passing you by. You can make plans for family gatherings and just enjoy the time, no worries about diseases and deaths to mar it. You can devote time for yourself and know that even when time passes you by and you get wrinkles on your forehead, you enjoyed whatever mortal time was provided to you by the universe.

Or is it God? No time for that kind of debate either.

Rehearse.

Practice the speech again, and again, and again.

So rehearse your speech and hear yourself while doing it.

Speak in a guaranteed and confident way. Talk about things you know very well. Let your confidence and experience shine thru and if you do this right, youwill own your audience.

Think about your entrance and the 1st couple of minutes of your speech. Focus on the way you walk in, project confidence and calm, don’t dive into anything, even if you are late or under a tight schedule do everything slowly and solemnly.

Make certain you get the iris of the audience, and start confidently.

That way you’ll have public speaking confidence and begin mastering public speaking.

She pitches up with her basket of wonderful goodies and they are sold for her, no questions asked.

You might think there wasn’t any selling involved. Not so. She needs to sell the postulate to her husband, the receptionist must like her, the person working the tuck shop or college canteen has to agree that cookies aren’t bad for the kids. If they donot, irrespective of the husband being the head teacher the cookies just will not get sold.

Here’s another example.

Youare a salaried worker. You push paper all day. You don’t have to sell. Yes you do. You sell each day. The first time you sell is when you sell yourself for the job. Then you sell yourself each day by pushing that paper efficiently. You are selling yourself to a boss each day to reassure him that you’re a deserving member of staff.

Do you come in late to work each morning? You are losing a sale. Yourself as a staff member. Guess on whose desk that pink slip will land.

So each thing you do is a sales situation. You build a good relationship with a colleague, you’re selling yourself as a good team member. You are friendly to abuyer even though you arenot in the sales department, maybe you’re the receptionist, you’re selling the company to the purchaser.

What’s the one thing that is your biggest asset in selling yourself, your service, most likely a business venture or simply brand you?

It is having the ability to talk out clearly, enthusiastically, with zeal and with regard to your audience. As much as you might think that public speaking is only standing on a stage and delivering a lovely talk to a bunch of people, this isn’t where it ends.
